This office procedure is used for larger varicose veins bulging and close to the skin. Done under local anesthesia, it involves removal of the vein through small or tiny incisions or even needle punctures along the course of the vein. A majority of patients don’t need sutures except when the varicose veins are very large; usually the incisions are less than 1-3mm. Other than the discomfort of local anesthesia, there is usually some tenderness for a couple of days and bruising for a couple of weeks after procedure. The incisions in a vast majority do not leave permanent obvious scars. Results are very satisfying.
