Prevention

Many reasons for the development of leg vein problems are beyond our control. However, we can still take charge of our leg health and delay or prevent the appearance of varicose veins and spider veins. The amount of exercise we get, the clothes we wear, the foods we eat, and control of our body chemistry contribute a great deal to leg vein health.

A number of factors increase the likelihood of developing leg vein problems. The primary factor contributing to the development of varicose and spider veins is hereditary weak vein walls and vein valves resulting in leg vein problems.

There are also a number of lifestyle variables known to accelerate and aggravate the development of varicose or spider veins including pregnancy, birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy, lack of exercise, prolonged sitting or standing, obesity, constipation and aging.
